This is not the definitive list of things to buy at Costco, and it’s also not the list of the best deals at Costco. Some of these items may be available at other places, but I buy them at Costco due to the quality and price comparisons in my area. Let me know if any of these are your favorite things to buy at Costco!
If you want to know how prices compare between Costco and Amazon on the most commonly bought items, see my Costco vs Amazon comparison.
The 20 Best Things to Buy at Costco
Toilet paper
Toilet paper actually is only a good deal at Costco IF you aren’t up for shopping drugstore deals. This is a hard one for folks, but you can’t beat 12 rolls for $3 no matter how big the bulk pack is. That said I know many folks aren’t up for learning a new game so, grab the big pack and know that you got a good price on a required item of life.
Protein bars
The Costco brand protein bars are similar to name brand Quest bars in terms of ingredients, but they cost less than half the price. I also actually think they taste better!
Liquid egg whites
I use egg whites in smoothies as well as in baking and cooking, and the price at Costco can’t be beat.
Rotisserie chickens
You knew this was going to be on the list, right? At $4.99 each, you can’t beat the price. Whenever I go to Costco, I pick up at least two.
Dishwasher detergent pods
This is another item where it truly is one of the cheapest place to buy these.
Meat
While I don’t buy all my meat at Costco, I do buy certain cuts if it is less than $3/pound, and I’ve never been disappointed.
Pre-packaged foods
The place where Costco can really get you is with prepackaged snacks and convenience foods. It seems like a good deal because you’re getting 60 packages, but if you compare it to smaller boxes at a different store, you can almost always get it cheaper. However, I will buy these items when Costco has them on sale if the unit price is cheaper!
Dog food
Our dog isn’t picky, and it’s hard to find cheaper, better quality dog food than at Costco.
Chocolate chips
Chocolate chips are a pantry staple in my house, and while I can sometimes find them on sale for cheaper, Costco usually has the best price.
Frozen green beans
I always like to have frozen vegetables on hand for a quick dinner. Their frozen green beans are inexpensive and come in a huge bag so that you can just pull out however many you want to make.
Frozen cauliflower rice
All frozen cauliflower rice is not created equal, and Costco’s is the best that I’ve found!
Orange chicken
This is something I like to have in the freezer (paired with the potstickers below) for an easy dinner. If you have people in your family who don’t like the sauce, leave it off some of the chicken before you serve it.
Potstickers
Serve this with the orange chicken I just mentioned! These are a favorite in our house a great side dish for any Asian-inspired
Clothes
Yes, I have entered the season of life where I love to buy clothes at Costco. I’ve bought a bathing suit, socks, and a winter jacket there recently.
Coconut milk
Not only is the coconut milk a really good price, but it’s also very creamy and doesn’t separate as much as other canned coconut milks do.
Medications
Not all medications are cheaper at Costco despite what people say, so make sure you do a price check. I have found many single-ingredient vitamins (Vitamin D, etc.) are cheaper at Costco, also large bottles of Allergy medicines are significantly cheaper per tablet.
All-purpose flour
If you do a lot of baking, the giant bags of flour are cheaper than most stores.
Maple syrup
Costco maple syrup is also one of the cheapest prices I’ve found, and the quality is good. I prefer maple syrup over honey in most recipes, so this is a regular buy for me.
Nuts
The giant bags of Costco brand nuts are cheaper than most other stores, and sometimes they have fun flavors like salt and pepper or bbq.
Batteries
Batteries are another one of the best things to buy at Costco, even beating Amazon prices.
