Over the past month I’ve been slowly implementing a huge new side of Southern Savers. After many years and thousands of emails asking for saved shopping lists, I’m excited to say that it is a reality. I know over 10,000 of you have already signed up and started saving your lists, but for anyone else that hasn’t I thought I’d walk you through all the new features. For those of you that have been using it for a few weeks, I promise there are still a few things you haven’t found in it!!
Saving Your Shopping List
We had to make a new login system to create this ability, so head over and create an account. You can create one list for a store and save multiple lists of deals to it, you could even create a list to price match at another store and merge numerous lists all into one.
If you want to add your items to an existing list, then select a saved list you’ve already made from the drop down. Want to make a new list? Just type in whatever name makes you happy and click the “add to list” button.
Show Only Your Local Coupons
My favorite feature by far is finally using all of our regional coupon data to change your list to only show the coupons you have in your paper!! To make this feature work you need to make sure that you have a newspaper (or papers) selected in your profile. When you are logged in you should see your name in the top right corner, under your name profile will appear in a drop down. You can also go ahead and select the stores you have in your area, that is for a future feature i’m still working on…
Right now we have 23 newspapers covered weekly by volunteers. If you don’t see your paper in the list, pick the city closest to you. Another tip: look on the spine of your coupon insert and see if other cities are listed. You may find that your insert is really the same as another area. If you want your area covered all it takes is a consistent volunteer, just email me (jenny@southernsavers.com) and I’ll give you all the details.
Once you have a newspaper selected under your profile, now when you are looking at your shopping list select the box above and any coupon that wasn’t in your paper goes away. How nice is that?? No more searching an insert only to find the coupons not there!!
A Reset Button
If you are busy cleaning up your shopping list (deleting coupons you don’t have etc.) and accidentally delete things you needed there is a reset button. I’ll warn you, it resets everything… but at least it’s an option and you don’t have to start over.
Savings Tracker
Many of you have asked for years for a spreadsheet to keep tabs on your savings. Well now you can do it online and even see a nice little graph! After you are done shopping come home and enter a few numbers off your receipt. Week by week you’ll see how much you’ve saved total, plus a breakdown of what the savings was from sales and coupons. If you are a social butterfly, you can also share that savings on Facebook and Twitter after you track it.
I have more things in the works for this new system… so keep your eyes open for updates and new pages. If you have any features you’d love to see I’d love to hear them. While we can’t do everything (cause everything has a price) we can definitely try!
