For those who have limited transportation, live far away from stores, or who are just in a season of life where it’s hard to get out of the house, grocery delivery or shipping is a lifesaver. The question is, can you still use coupons and save money when buying your groceries this way? The answer is yes, and while you may not save as much as you would by being able to use paper coupons and shop in store, there are more and more ways to use digital coupons and other methods to make sure you’re saving money on grocery delivery and shipping.
Note: Most of these options you should still consider tipping the delivery person. Many local stores use Instacart and Doordash to deliver orders so the tip may not be integrated into your checkout through the stores system.
Saving Money on Grocery Delivery Orders
Walmart
Shop the deals and earn Walmart cash or use Ibotta offers and still get the deal with shipped or same day delivery, which are both free for Walmart+ members. All orders are free to ship for Walmart+ members or free shipping on $35+ for everyone else.
If you are interested in a grocery delivery subscription, Walmart+ is by far the best bang for your buck. Right now they are offering 50% off a year of Walmart+, making it only $49 (less than $5/month). Normal delivery fees are $9.95, so if you plan to order at least 5 times a year, you’ll break even!
Target
Almost every deal is available to shop online for delivery or pickup. You’ll get the sale items, earn gift cards, and even be able to apply Target Circle offers or Ibotta offers. Some offers you’ll find are not good on shipped orders.
If you plan to have lots of orders delivered consider signing up for Target Circle 360 and get unlimited same-day deliveries for $99 a year (without Circle360 delivery is $9.99 per order)
To see if a deal is available on delivery or shipped items, look at the delivery options for that item. Any that are greyed out mean that the item/deal won’t work.
Extra Tip: Most circle offers are good on up to 4 items. So grab a few and that will help you reach delivery or free shipping thresholds.
Amazon
Amazon rarely runs their own sale… instead most weeks they copy local sales from Target, Sam’s and even Walmart. For example all the Target gift card offers, you’ll find identical offers on Amazon with instant credit back. While it’s kinda like cheating, the Amazon deals are actually better. You get your savings right then off that order and many times the prices are lower than the local store.
Amazon also has lots of digital coupons. Up your savings by using subscribe and save on any order you can. You don’t have to keep any of them active, head in and cancel a few weeks later if you want!
I set all my subscribe and save deals to ship the next order in 6 months so I have plenty of time to cancel. We also post a long list of top amazon coupon deals each week that work best with subscribe & save.
Amazon PrimeNow
PrimeNow is Amazon’s grocery delivery service that delivers groceries from Whole Foods. To join the grocery delivery service, you have to pay $9.99/month ($99/year) and already be a prime member. But they do offer really good coupons and if you are looking for certain kinds of groceries, this may be a good way to save money. Just make sure you’re close enough to a Whole Foods location before you sign up!
Instacart
Instacart allows you to shop the BOGO sales at many stores like Publix and now also works with Ibotta offers! While you will get the large sale items, they don’t always have every sale that is running in-store. To see which stores are available in their area, you can check their website.
Kroger
Kroger is one grocery store that does delivery really well. They offer free delivery on larger order sizes and let you use any of their digital coupons as well as Ibotta offers. (Note that if you are doing grocery pickup, you can even use paper coupons).
Kroger offers free delivery on orders of $35+ for anyone enrolled in their Boost program. Choose from either $59 a year for free next-day delivery or $99 a year for free same-day delivery. The $99 option also comes with free Disney+!
If you’ve never used Kroger Delivery they are currently offering $20 off your first $75+ purchase.
Walgreens
Walgreens is one of the only stores offering free same-day delivery with no fees or membership required. As long as you have an order of $35+ you’ll get free delivery!
With all Walgreens orders, in-store, pickup or delivery, you can use any digital coupon that is available and earn Walgreens cash back. You will not be able to earn the in-store Register Rewards, but some weeks they offer similar rewards for online shoppers.
CVS
There is one store membership program I think everyone should be a part. Signing up for CVS ExtraCare+ is a really a money maker program for anyone who shops at least once a month at CVS. Sign up for a year membership for only $48 and get a free $10 reward every month to use on anything you need. That’s $120 in free credit to CVS!
Being part of ExtraCare+ also offers free same-day delivery on any order of $10 or more. You can shop all sales (with many items being cheaper online that in-store) get rewards back, plus use digital manufacturer and store coupons. Shop literally all the deals without ever having to go to the store.
