amazon price increaseHeads up! The price of Amazon Prime is reportedly going to increase – by a lot. If you have been deciding whether or not to join, now is the time to.

Amazon Prime currently cost $79 a year. That may seem like a lot at first, but it factors out to $6.58 a month.

What It Includes:

-Free 2-Day Shipping On Millions of Items
-Unlimited Instant Steaming of Amazon Instant Watch
-Borrow Kindle Books for Free

Is it worth it?:

Free 2-Day Shipping

I added an item that was $5.49 to my cart and my shipping was $6.49. That’s for one item. So if you bought, (13) $5 items, Amazon Prime has paid for itself. That’s a little over (1) item per month.

If you don’t currently buy a lot on Amazon, with Prime you will find yourself buying more things. Amazon has great deals! They are my go-to site for price comparisons, electronics, some household products, and more. You can see some past and current deals here. Read More→

6 ways to use shaving cream (besides shaving)

Most of you know that shaving cream is for, well, shaving, but did you know that there’s a lot more that it can handle? It’s got surprisingly good cleaning power on lots of things and the great part is that you an usually snag shaving cream at really cheap prices.

You can see from a previous post of mine that great deals on shaving cream do come along, especially at drug stores. And who knows? With prices at around 49¢ a can, maybe you’ll be able to start stocking up on shaving cream rather than more expensive carpet cleaners or stain removers!

          Ways to Use Shaving Cream:

          1. Use it to remove stains in carpet. If something has spilled on your rug, blot the spill, squirt some shaving cream on it, and wipe it with a wet sponge. The same technique can be used for spills on clothing.

          2. Use it to shine your jewelry. Use a bit of shaving cream on an old toothbrush to gently clean your jewelry.

          3. Use it to clean chrome faucets. To get a shiny and clean appearance on your chrome, sponge some shaving cream onto the faucet and wipe it clean with a damp cloth.

          4. Use it to remove paint from your hands. Rub some shaving cream into your hands as if you were washing them. Finish up with some warm water and soap in the sink to remove those stubborn paint spots.

          5. Use it to fix a squeaky hinge. Since it expands, shaving cream can silence that squeak when you spray a bit of it on the hinge.

          6. Entertain toddlers.  Spray some on a cookie sheet and practice writing letters, shapes and more.  We’ve done this many times!  They do need to be old enough to not eat it…

Do you know of other creative ways to use shaving cream?

Frugal Date Ideas | Why you should celebrate Valentine's DayValentine’s Day this year falls on my favorite date day: Friday! We still have a couple of weeks, so it is time to start getting ready.

I’m going to be honest, having been married for 11 years, it’s tempting to skip celebrating Valentine’s Day. My frugal mindset sets in and I see it as a waste of money. Do we really want to pay a babysitter so we can go out for a commercial holiday? But then, I stop myself and remember why it’s important.

If you think I’m crazy and you love Valentine’s Day, don’t worry, next week we are going to find some awesome date and gift ideas.

Here are 10 reasons to celebrate Valentine’s Day:

1.) Whether you have been married for 2 months or 20 years, you have to keep your spouse a priority. It’s easy when life gets busy to putting dating aside, but that is when you actually need dates the most.

2.) It’s a great opportunity to do something nice for your spouse. Valentine’s Day forces you to stop and think about someone else. You have an opportunity to do something your spouse will love… like buy them a big ole steak.

3.) You don’t have to spend a lot of money. If money is tight, you can celebrate at home. Eat Ramen by candlelight and dance in the kitchen.

4.) Kids love it and your kid at heart self will too. Kids live to make and give out Valentine’s Day cards. Once your creative juices are following, you’ll remember how much you do too.

5.) There are some really fun things to do. Heart shaped waffles at Waffle House? Yes, please!

6.) Pinterest approves. Just search for Valentine’s Day on Pinterest. You’ll be amazed at all of the great ideas. To get you started, you can see my Pinterest board here.

7.) It reminds us that love and marriage are important. Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating love! Jump on the bandwagon and feel like a newlywed with a huge crush on your spouse again.

8.) You get to eat lots of chocolate. That’s right, chocolate. Chocolate cupcakes, chocolate candy, chocolate covered strawberries, the choice is yours (or your spouse’s if they are buying it, but you can drop hints).

9.) There are coupons! You can print coupons for dinner, chocolate, and gifts.

10.) It’s a great opportunity to show your kids that you love their dad. It’s good for kids to see that their parents love each other and gives them a sense of stability.

Check back next Friday for a ton of frugal ideas of how to celebrate Valentine’s Day!

Do you agree Valentine’s Day is important or do you say no thanks, Hallmark? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
