Going Nuts? I can help you understand coupon terms and abbreviations

Shopping for a new baby is incredibly overwhelming.  If you’re a new parent, you have no clue how to bathe a baby much less what you need to do it, and stores aren’t there to help either.  Many stores will give you a long list of things you must register for “to be helpful.”  They actually just want all the money from folks buying you all those things—they don’t care if you never use them! To help you sort through all the options, here are what I consider the top 11 things you need for baby and will actually use.

I have previously shared a list of 11 things you don’t need for baby, today I thought we should cover exactly what you do need.  Some of these things are specific items we’ve grown to love others are general categories.  This isn’t a full list honestly, there are other things you want to grab.  I made a printable Realistic Baby Registry Check List to give you a big list of everything you need.

While you may need more than this, think of this list as 11 things that we have used the most for our babies!

Boudreaux’s Butt Paste

Yeah, I’m starting with Butt Paste.  Your whole life is going to revolve around what goes in and out of this little person for a few months and this is some important stuff!  I first learned of Boudreaux’s in my hospital nursing days.  This was the brand we gave to parents and I now understand why.  This is the best of all the diaper creams out there.  I’m pretty sure you could use it to water seal the shower if you needed to.  It will solve any diaper rash very quickly or keep anything new from happening.  It’s not the cheapest so always look for a coupon first.

Miracle Swaddling Blanket

Think of this as a straight jacket for babies.  It is truly a miracle for helping them stay swaddled and sleeping longer.  More sleep is an amazing thing for everyone in the house!  Miracle swaddling blankets weren’t around for my older girls, but we were introduced to them for my now 2 year old.  After she slept for 6 hours straight the first night I immediately hopped online and bought 2 more.  They also around as cheap as a basic blanket but think of this like buying a bottle of sleep (which any new mom would pay top dollar for).  There are other brands like Halo that are also great, but this one was better than most.

Let’s all be honest: Regardless of your feelings and traditions on certain holidays, many of the biggest holidays we celebrate revolve to some degree around food. But even if you love to cook, making a meal that will accommodate everyone around the table can be hard. This year, I’ve got you covered with ideas for a classic Easter dinner as well as options to pick from that are keto-friendly (all are gluten-free, and many are paleo-friendly as well!).

You obviously don’t need to make everything on this list, but if your family loves a good broccoli casserole and you’re going low-carb, try the keto option and see if anyone notices the difference. Or if you and other family members are cooking together, maybe you can make the gluten-free option while your sister makes the regular option. This classic vs. keto Easter meal plan will ease your decision making and let you focus on being with your family as you celebrate.

Classic vs. Keto Easter Meal Plan

Honey Mustard Glazed Ham vs. Rosemary and Mustard Crusted Baked Ham

Cheesy Cheddar Broccoli Casserole vs. Broccoli Gratin with Swiss and Parmesan

Scalloped Potatoes vs. “Better Than Potatoes” Cheesy Cauliflower Puree

Honey Balsamic Carrots vs. Lemony Roasted Asparagus

DIY Resurrection Eggs for only $1 to tell the story of Easter with your kids.

This is an all time family favorite post we shared a number of years ago!  It was time we make a new set so I figured I would share it again for y’all too!!

Every year at Easter our family has a tradition of going through Resurrection Eggs.  It’s like an advent calendar for Easter.  Our girls love learning about the story of Easter with this tool, but when you purchase a set for $15-$20 it can get pretty expensive.  Since we go through the Resurrection Eggs so often, a lot of the pieces go missing and now we don’t have a full set.  So, today we’re going to make our own.

I picked up a 12-pk of Easter eggs from Dollar General for only $1 and used things from around the house to fill them.  Making the total cost $1 instead of $15!

You can download this PDF with verses to go with each egg.  The verses explain why we use certain symbols in the eggs, and how it corresponds to the story.  Cut them into strips and roll them up to put in the corresponding egg.  That way they are actually learning the scripture that goes along with the Easter story.

DIY Resurrection Eggs to make with your family this Easter for only $1!

My kids were raised using the Resurrection Eggs that we bought years ago.  They thought it was awesome that we were making our own eggs (and adding some new symbols).

Here’s a quick run-down of what we put in the eggs:

              1.  Palm Branch (leaf) – Jesus was celebrated when he entered the city.

              2.  Bread (Gold Fish) – Symbolizes the Last Supper.

              3.  Silver Coins (3 Nickels) – Judas took a bribe to betray Jesus.

              4.  Purple Cloth & Thorns (leftover cloth and thorns from the yard) – Jesus was mocked by the soldiers.

              5.  Whip (rope or leather piece) – Symbolizes the beating that Jesus endured.

              6.  Cross (toothpicks glued together) – Jesus carried his cross.

              7.  Nails – Shows the pain Jesus went through as he was nailed to his cross.

              8.  Sign (I wrote “This is the King of the Jews” on a small strip of paper)  – The sign that was nailed above Jesus saying he was the King of Jews.

              9.  Spear and Sponge (piece of a toothpick and a cut-off corner of a dish sponge) – Signifies the proof of Jesus’ death and his last moments.

              10.  Spices (cinnamon and cloves) – Jewish people were traditionally buried with spices.

              11.  Rock – Symbolizes the stone that was moved from Jesus’ tomb.

              12.  Nothing – Shows the empty tomb.  Jesus has risen.
