This homemade hummus recipe is super simple to make: throw everything into a blender and blend it up until smooth!
Note about one of the ingredients: Tahini is a paste made of ground sesame seeds. You can find it in most grocery stores (I find mine in the international aisle, but you could also look next to the peanut butter).
Tip: Take your hummus to the next level by adding toppings! I like to top mine with extra virgin olive oil, some extra salt and pepper, paprika, and red pepper flakes. It would also be great with everything bagel seasoning, pesto, or chopped roasted red peppers.
Ingredients
- 2 15 oz cans chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 1/3 cup tahini (make sure the tahini is stirred well before you measure it)
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 4 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 2 garlic cloves, peeled and roughly chopped
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp paprika
- 5 tbsp water (or more, depending on your preferred texture)
Directions
- In a blender, add all of the ingredients. Blend until very smooth, stopping every so often to scrape down the sides of the blender so everything gets incorporated. You can add more or less water depending on your desired texture.
- Transfer to a serving plate (or store in an air tight container in the fridge). Add toppings if desired (see tip above) and serve with veggies and warm pita.

August is a time to stock up not only on obvious things like school supplies, but also to take advantage of the fruits and vegetables that are in season. Summer produce is still in full swing, so make sure you check this list of what to buy in August before you head to the store!
A quick note: For large ticket items (other than computers) you really want to wait until Labor Day. August doesn’t have any three-day weekends and really isn’t a great month for big purchases. Labor Day is also when we start to see the best clearance deals on all things summer!
