This homemade hummus recipe is super simple to make: throw everything into a blender and blend it up until smooth!

Note about one of the ingredients: Tahini is a paste made of ground sesame seeds. You can find it in most grocery stores (I find mine in the international aisle, but you could also look next to the peanut butter).

Tip: Take your hummus to the next level by adding toppings! I like to top mine with extra virgin olive oil, some extra salt and pepper, paprika, and red pepper flakes. It would also be great with everything bagel seasoning, pesto, or chopped roasted red peppers.

Homemade Hummus Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 15 oz cans chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/3 cup tahini (make sure the tahini is stirred well before you measure it)
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 2 garlic cloves, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 5 tbsp water (or more, depending on your preferred texture)

Directions

  1. In a blender, add all of the ingredients. Blend until very smooth, stopping every so often to scrape down the sides of the blender so everything gets incorporated. You can add more or less water depending on your desired texture.
  2. Transfer to a serving plate (or store in an air tight container in the fridge). Add toppings if desired (see tip above) and serve with veggies and warm pita.
