Did you grow up eating Hamburger Helper? It’s a nostalgic taste, but skip the box and try this delicious homemade version of beef stroganoff!
This recipe uses ground beef, making for a quick and easy dinner. Use whatever pasta shape you like!
Ingredients
- 12 oz pasta (shape of your choice)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 large onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 lb ground beef
- salt and pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup broth (beef or chicken)
- 1 1/2 cups sour cream
- 1 tsp cornstarch
Directions
- Cook your pasta according to the directions on the box. Drain it and set aside.
- While the pasta is cooking, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil and onion and cook for 3-4 minutes. Add the garlic, stir, and add the ground beef. Cook, breaking the meat into crumbles, until browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Add some salt and pepper, the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir and then add the broth. Allow to simmer for 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the sour cream.
- Make a slurry: mix together a couple tablespoons of cold water with the cornstarch until dissolved. Pour into the skillet and stir until well combined (this will thicken up the sauce).
- Reduce the heat to medium low and simmer until the sauce has thickened (about 5-7 minutes).
- Add the cooked pasta into the skillet, stir to combine everything, and serve hot.
