Homemade Hamburger Helper Beef Stroganoff

Ingredients

  • 12 oz pasta (shape of your choice)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 large onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup broth (beef or chicken)
  • 1 1/2 cups sour cream
  • 1 tsp cornstarch

Directions

  1. Cook your pasta according to the directions on the box. Drain it and set aside.
  2. While the pasta is cooking, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil and onion and cook for 3-4 minutes. Add the garlic, stir, and add the ground beef. Cook, breaking the meat into crumbles, until browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  3. Add some salt and pepper, the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir and then add the broth. Allow to simmer for 3-4 minutes.
  4. Stir in the sour cream.
  5. Make a slurry: mix together a couple tablespoons of cold water with the cornstarch until dissolved. Pour into the skillet and stir until well combined (this will thicken up the sauce).
  6. Reduce the heat to medium low and simmer until the sauce has thickened (about 5-7 minutes).
  7. Add the cooked pasta into the skillet, stir to combine everything, and serve hot.
