This has been one of those weeks that you just can’t plan for. We had a ton on the calendar, but ended up having to cancel everything on the schedule for our daughter, Mary Rose, to have another surgery. It was a tad on the stressful side, but in the end was a huge blessing.
Our yearly insurance deductibles reset yesterday and Monday when the doctor was talking about her needing another surgery he stopped and said that we could try to get it in this calendar year to help with insurance. I told him that it didn’t matter since we reset on Thursday. He looked up and said, “I’m free on Wednesday”. Ummm…. okay…. we went from plans to head home from Atlanta to plans to stay another two days. We are incredibly thankful to this doctor for so much already, but then to be able to arrange his schedule to get this done on the last day before deductibles reset… it’s pretty unheard of. We had long met our max out of pocket with the first surgery so this easily saved us another $2-$3 thousand dollars!
That alone can end Friday Finals. I’d say our savings this week was through the charts!
On a grocery side of things though, I did run out this morning to get milk, water and refill propane tanks. I didn’t save anything. Our section of South Carolina is projected to get anywhere between 12-20 inches of rain in the next 3 days. As we prepare, I have realized yet again how wonderful having a stockpile is. While we stockpile to save money and not necessarily for “prepping” it is very calming to know that we could probably eat for 2-3 weeks just off the pantry. I do encourage any of you in this section of SC/GA to be ready though. Stores are already running out of milk, water, and other necessities. I don’t think anyone knows what to expect, but if the weather men are even half right things are going to be a mess!
