Is one of your goals for 2017 to earn more money? It is for most people, so you aren’t alone. One question I get a lot is “how can I make money from home?” One of the ways that has been around for ages is direct sales. While a lot of people make excuses that it’s over saturated or only a few earn good money, in reality this business model is the same as any other… The harder you work the more you earn. Plain and simple. No excuses. For the next week I want to share different work at home sales businesses that you can get started with and earn good money at home. Keep in mind, none of them are free rides… but they are great jobs that have a lot of potential if you put your mind to it!
Trades of Hope
First up in our week of business opportunities, we have from Jennifer with Trades of Hope. I’ll let you hear more about why she joined the Trades of Hope team directly from Jennifer.
About Jennifer & Trades of Hope:
I’m Jennifer Heyboer, a Compassionate Entrepreneur with Trades of Hope. I started my own business with Trades of Hope almost two years ago. Trades of Hope is a missional business whose goal is to empower women out of poverty. We partner with artisans in 15 countries, including the US. We buy their fair trade, handmade jewelry, scarves, handbags, home décor, and more and market it here in the United States.
I used to go on mission trips a lot, but with two young kids, that had long since fallen by the wayside. When I found out about Trades of Hope, I thought it sounded too good to be true, so I researched the daylights out of it. To my delighted surprise, not only are the founders who they say they are and do what they claim to do, many of the artisan groups that we partner with are ministries in and of themselves. By becoming a Compassionate Entrepreneur, I have been able to be on a perpetual mission trip! I share the stories of our artisan partners at home parties and in online events, selling beautiful pieces that are transforming lives around the world.
And I contribute to our household income! I had tried my hand at direct sales in the past but was unable to succeed because I felt awkward asking people to buy from me. But with Trades of Hope, it’s not about me! It’s about her: each artisan. She can provide for herself and her family when I present the opportunity to someone to join me as a Compassionate Entrepreneur, host a home or Facebook party, or shop.
I am a Southern Saver. My husband discovered this site when we bought our house and started planning on kid number two. Everything I know about couponing and online discount hunting I learned here from Jenny. So I get that you guys are all wondering what kind of deals you can get from Trades of Hope. We don’t have sales crazy often (bummer, I know), BUT we have quite a few pieces that come in sets that can be split to give as gifts or to just make sure you are getting the most bang for your buck!
Fair Trade:
It is also important to note that we are members of the Fair Trade Federation and abide by fair trade principles. Everyone involved in the production of each handmade piece was paid fairly for their work. We should all consider the source of items we bring into our homes. I can’t buy all fair trade stuff, and you probably can’t either, but we can all look for ethically made products that are within our budget as often as we can.
Get Involved:
There are three ways to get involved with Trades of Hope: you can JOIN as a Compassionate Entrepreneur, becoming part of our ongoing mission and supplementing your family’s income; you can HOST a party at home or online to help spread the word and create ripples of change in your circles; and you can SHOP! You already love to buy beautiful things for yourself and your friends: why not transform lives in the process?

Katie Davis, author of Kisses from Katie, established this group to provide these ladies with an opportunity to have a dignified way to earn a living. Whereas their poverty had pushed them to extremes to survive, they are now assets to their community, contributing to a feeding program that provides nutritious meals for over 1,200 children. The Pure Love Bracelet is made by an incredible group in Haiti whose mission is to prevent children from being relinquished to orphanages by providing jobs for the parents. A large percentage of children in Haitian orphanages have at least one living parent, but these parents can’t afford to take care of them. At the “Unorphanage,” these loving parents are taught jewelry-making and pottery skills so that they can be providers. Half of the beads on these bracelets are made from the nutrition labels on cereal boxes, and the other half are hand-rolled clay beads. By buying these beautiful pieces, you are keeping families together!
