This week I kinda went a little over board with the deals at Target. It’s hard for a mama to hold back with diapers and wipe deals. It was a trial though and proof that couponing isn’t always pretty no matter how long you’ve been playing the game. We went in for what I hoped would be a super fast deal only to finish an hour later. Checking out in Target is fast, as they want it to be, and you can easily miss what you got gift cards for. You’ll also miss what eCoupons worked and didn’t plus a number of other things. It doesn’t help when your 2 year old asks at least 40 questions during the 5 minute checkout.
I got everyone to the car, buckled them in, loaded the car with diapers and then sat to look at my receipt quickly. My heart sank in noticing that I bought one case of diapers that wasn’t part of the diaper deal but was $10 more. So not only did I not get the $20 Target gift card… I had also paid $10 more than planned. I confess had it been a $1 error I was so exhausted we would have driven away. But, $30 error… we had to go back in. So we unbuckled, loaded all the diapers back into a buggy and went back.
If you ever run into a Target gift card error like this, remember that you have to buy everything in same transaction. So I had to return all three boxes we bought, go back and get another correct box and then rebuy all three again. I have a feeling your tired with me after all that. I share this though to help those of you that are overwhelmed realize that it happens to everyone. Just take your deals one at a time and don’t be afraid to speak up if something doesn’t seem right.
After all that here are the totals:
Total Value purchased: $157.14
Total Spent: $72.91
Total Saved: $84.23 or 54%
Gift Cards Remaining: $25
I broke this into two transactions in the end… paying for all the diapers and wipes with the gift cards I got from the Aveeno baby care and hair care items. No matter what they tell you, gift cards can be used on the next transaction!
We also grabbed some of the top super cheap items at Food Lion with the house brand promotion running. Total purchased: $9.99. Then I got back a $5 coupon off my next purchase. We will use that coupon at Bi-Lo!
