I spent the last week focusing on cleaning and organizing (and sharing lots of how to and tip posts). I’m pretty sure this all has come from the third trimester nesting that sets in. We also have a few other things going on before the baby gets here… the biggest being having to move my middle child down to the office area for 3 months.
She is set to have hip surgery in a few weeks and will be in large casts on both legs, so climbing the stairs (or carrying her up and down them) is out. I have a number of things in my mind to help her feel at home and happy in the office, but for now my first project was to figure out where to store her clothes.
There is a large desk in the room, that came in through the window it’s so large, so it has to stay. Adding in a bed, there just isn’t room to move in a dresser for her. This is where our SOFI boxes come into play. SOFI is a new line of organizational boxes from the Fellowes company, and they sent us a good number to try out and review. Being the girl that always longs for organization I couldn’t pass up the chance for some gorgeous boxes and the hope of a dazzling closet.
We have large shelf openings in the office that are really too large even for books, so I cleared out one of them and then played with the SOFI boxes like a puzzle to see how many I could fit into the space. Most are on their side (not quite as they intend) but the one on the top made for a perfect place to put undergarments you wouldn’t want the world to see.
For a tiny 7 year old, this will be more than enough space to store her clothes for her time downstairs and I’m happy that it takes up no extra foot space in the room!
With the remaining bins and boxes I set out to solve some problem areas. My nightstand was next. I’m a bit of a book hoarder and never put away the books after I read them, they just get added to the stacks. After a little cleaning and organizing the SOFI Rax Bin fit perfectly to give a vertical way to store and see things!
Doesn’t that just make you want to climb in bed and read a book? By the way you can win the Nester’s book (your own copy not mine on my night stand) all week this week while she guest posts some of her wonderful ideas this week on Southern Savers.
Next up was my girls closet. I forgot to take a before picture, it would have been to scary anyway… but imagine shelves overflowing with dance and American Heritage Girl uniforms and another shelf filled with lots of swim suits (3 girls share this closet). There were so many that you also need to imagine a pile growing on the floor of ones that fell off the shelf. You get the idea.
Now they have a SOFI Small Zippered Tote and a SOFI Brix Box holding all their uniforms/ballet and all their swim suits. It looks beautiful and there won’t be any more piles on the floor from the cascading water of stuff.
The last two SOFI products got claimed by the older girls. They are art loving crazies and quickly had them as marker/pen holders. I was also told to point out that they separated the pens by color into warm and cool bins… this just proves that all women crave organization no matter the age.
A little bit about the boxes:
They are covered in a soft shiny textured fabric that looks like brown silk burlap (I know that doesn’t really exist). The inside is a geometric design grey print fabric. Both the inside and outside are stain-guard protected. They are hard sided and also have a hard bottom. Handles are woven with brass rivets. Also fun little fact they are all made from a minimum of 65% recycled content.
Here’s the entire line in case you are curious:
What areas of your house could use a few SOFI boxes?
