Mother’s Day is coming up, and while it seems like culturally we do a lot to remember our own moms and mother-in-laws, sometimes the moms who still have kids at home get the short end of the stick. These moms are still in the trenches and can certainly use encouragement! In thinking about what I need most as a mom with kids who still live in my house, it’s really just encouragement that I’m doing what God has called me to do. In light of that, here are 11 encouraging books for Christian moms. Maybe you can gift this to your wife, if you are married to a mom, or even just to a mom friend who could use some encouragement on Mother’s Day.

Risen Motherhood: Gospel Hope for Everyday Moments by Emily Jensen and Laura Wifler

The authors of this book began talking about motherhood on their podcast, and now they have taken some of that content and turned it into a book. This book would be really wonderful for moms who still have kids under 5.

The End of Me: Finding Resurrection Life in the Daily Sacrifices of Motherhood by Liz Wann

I like books that tell it like it is, and this book does not pretend like being a mom isn’t hard! Yet it also offers hope and encouragement.

This book is a collection of essays about motherhood by a variety of women.

A Mother’s Heart: A Look at Values, Vision, and Character for the Christian Mother by Jean Fleming

I read this book over a decade again and have revisited it many times. While it was published in 1996 and might seem a bit dated, it is so encouraging and a great inspiration, especially for moms in the early years of motherhood.

If you are trying to encourage an introverted mom, I can’t recommend this book highly enough!

This book is great for moms of babies because it’s very short and easy to read one section in just a few minutes!

Devoted: Great Men and Their Godly Moms by Tim Challies

This book is kind of a look at history by examining the moms of famous men. This would be a great gift for a mom who has boys!

Humble Moms: How the Work of Christ Sustains the Work of Motherhood by Kristen Wetherell

I haven’t read this one yet, but the description and endorsement made me add it to my TBR (to be read) list!

Expect Something Beautiful: Finding God’s Good Gifts in Motherhood by Laura Booz

I also haven’t read this book yet, but I know many moms would welcome any encouragement about seeing all the good things about being a mom.

Missional Motherhood: The Everyday Ministry of Motherhood in the Grand Plan of God by Gloria Furman

As a Christian mom, I want to take care of my kids’ physical needs, but also their spiritual needs. This book by Gloria Furman seeks to encourage moms in that way!
