When we are invited to a holiday meal and especially when we’re hosting one, we can be tempted to do something over the top or make something really special. The truth is, most people are not analyzing every dish, and the important thing is being together. Additionally, especially when I’m hosting, I find that it’s hard for me to enjoy the company when I’m scurrying around making a bunch of complicated dishes.

It’s perfectly fine to keep it simple. Just because something is easy or simple to make doesn’t mean it isn’t delicious! Stick to the basics with these 10 easy Thanksgiving side dishes so you can truly enjoy the day with your family and friends.

10 Easy Thanksgiving Side Dishes

Mashed potatoes

This is my favorite way to make mashed potatoes, and you don’t even need to measure everything. Just add the ingredients to your texture preference. These are delicious with your Thanksgiving turkey and gravy!

Mashed sweet potatoes

For mashed sweet potatoes, you’re going to do the same as with the regular potatoes. Add any seasonings you enjoy!

Roasted brussels sprouts

I thought I hated brussels sprouts until I tried them roasted as an adult. These are often on sale this time of year, making them a frugal option for a side dish.

Instant pot carrots

You can just add butter and salt to make these delicious, but add some additional spices like garlic or thyme to really take them over the top.

Marshmallow fruit salad

I love having fruit options at holiday gatherings because many younger kids are more likely to eat fruit than vegetables! If you don’t want to do the marshmallow aspect of this recipe, just do the fruit!

Instant pot macaroni and cheese

This is another kid-friendly side dish that is very quick and is made fully in the Instant Pot, cutting down on dishes.

Store bought rolls or biscuits

There is truly nothing wrong with buying store-bought rolls or biscuits. You can buy these bread items in the bakery, from the refrigerated section, or even in the frozen section.

Green bean casserole

This is a holiday classic, and there’s a reason. This simple recipe calls for frozen green beans but also gives instructions for canned or fresh.

Creamed corn

This recipe uses frozen corn, making it easy and frugal!

Boxed stuffing

There’s also nothing shameful about Stove Top stuffing! Even the off brand is delicious. This is another super quick side dish.

Your holiday meal doesn't have to be over the top to be good. Try making one of these delicious but easy Thanksgiving side dishes!
