It’s mostly true that there’s an app for everything, and that includes apps for keeping track of pretty much everything related to your baby’s growth and development. There’s always the risk of going too far with needing to keep track of it all, but if nothing else it can be helpful to track feedings and sleep for the first few month as you get into a new rhythm of life.
These 10 best apps for new parents are all free and the best options I’ve found for staying on top of feeding, sleeping, and baby milestones.
10 Best Apps for New Parents
Contractions Timer (Apple | Android)
In case you haven’t had your baby yet, you might want to start with this app! This is a super simple app that lets you just tap the screen to time your contractions. It will then tell you how far apart your contractions are and show you a little graph at the top to depict the frequency. If you truly are in labor, you don’t need to worry about watching the clock, so let this app do the work for you!
What to Expect Pregnancy and Baby Tracker (Apple | Android)
This app is great for using to track your pregnancy, but then it can transition into an app to help you stay on top of milestones and all the big things that come along with a new baby.
Baby Tracker (Apple | Android)
This is my favorite app for tracking feedings, sleep, and growth for a new baby. Whether you’re breastfeeding, formula feeding, or pumping (or all three!), it lets you keep track of every thing in a really easy way.
Growth App (Apple)
This app is very simple and has one function: to plot your baby or toddler’s growth. It then shows you charts of your baby’s growth and you can compare them to CDC and WHO growth charts. Unforunately, it’s not currently available for Android devices.
GlowBaby (Apple | Android)
This app lets you record feedings, sleep, diaper changes, pumping, and other baby activities and has a really nice interface. There is a premium option which allows you to analyze the data you’ve recorded, export data, and add more caregivers. But if you’re staying home with your baby, you likely will be more than fine with the free version.
MyMedela Breastfeeding Companion (Apple | Android)
If you have a Medela pump, you can use Bluetooth to connect the app to your pump. You can also manually track feedings, sleep, growth, and diaper changes, and the app gives you little insights into your baby’s development.
BabyTime (Apple | Android)
This is another app that is basically just a bunch of different timers that you can select to track everything that happens in a baby’s day. I tried navigating the app and really liked how easy it was to track everything.
Baby Sparks (Apple | Android)
This is a really unique app that gives you suggestions and ideas for activities to do with your baby based on the baby’s age. There is a premium version as well.
Web MD Baby (Apple | Android)
This app should definitely not replace the advice of your pediatrician, but if you need a quick reference guide for potential medical issues, it could be helpful to keep this app on your phone.
Tiny Beans (Apple | Android)
This app keeps track of photos you take of your baby and lets you share them with friends and family. It’s a great option to privately share pictures without plastering your kids’ pictures all over social media.
