Having 5 kids, 2 dogs, and 4 cats you can image what my floors look like. When we moved we got rid of all the carpet and went hardwood floors to make things a bit cleaner feeling, but someone still has to do all the work to keep it clean. This isn’t my favorite chore (I’m still searching to find one that is).
Mopping the floor isn’t an option unless all the kids are in bed. It never fails that they walk in, slip in it, spill my bucket… you get the picture. It also takes up a ton of my time and dry towels. So I don’t mop, judge me if you want I really don’t care. I do keep things clean though and have to with a 10 month old scooting around the floor picking up everything that falls.
Our go-to lately has been the Bona PowerPlus line. This is a cleaner designed specifically for hardwood floors that cleans amazingly well without the hassle of buckets and towels. It works on dirt in three ways: first, it loosens tough, heavy dirt build-up. Next, peroxide penetrates for a deep clean and finally, the oxygenated bubbling action lifts away surface debris. My favorite thing is that this Bona product is Greenguard certified, so I feel good about using it on the floors with a sweet crawler on the loose.
So that’s just the cleaner, but it also has a Bona PowerPlus Deep Clean Pad. The pad has PowerLoop technology, the microfiber pad gently breaks apart and loosens tough dirt with the twisted nylon scrubbers while the dual zone pad absorbs and traps dirt. The pad is machine washable and provides more than two times the absorbency over other microfiber pads.
You can pick up Bona PowerPlus at Lowes, Bed Bath and Beyond, Ace, True Value and more. The Hardwood Floor Deep Cleaner is $10.98 MSRP and the Bona Deep Clean Pad is $8.99 MSRP.
Bona sent me some products to try out for myself and we love them! The stick cleaner they sent is similar to some other battery-operated mops out there, but this one doesn’t run on batteries, it’s like a squirt bottle! Other squirt mops I’ve used have awful coverage or the squirter doesn’t work well, so I end up spraying way more than I need to in order to get the coverage I need to clean a mess. The Bona mop has awesome coverage, so I feel like I’m not wasting the cleaner and saving money on refills!
For the pad, you should probably wash it after every use. We don’t have a set day a week that we mop the floors or anything, so we mostly use the Bona mop to clean up spills or messes. Doing this lets us get away with washing the pad every 3-4 uses.
