In case you haven’t already learned the hard way, Walmart in Florida is no longer price matching store sales at the Walmart price. This made for crazy good deals, and actually made Walmart the best choice for shopping.
Now Florida shoppers, your Walmart price match is the same as other states. They will price match another store’s price if a price is listed in the ad. In other words if Publix has a BOGO deal listed but no sale price mentioned, you can’t price match it. I should mention some stores are even refusing to price match items that have a price because Publix says “save up to” they are using an out in the policy saying that “the actual price cannot be determined.” While it’s not all stores, it is a large enough number to warn you.
Walmart vs. Grocery Store Which One is Better?
It’s really not a hard decision. While Walmart will price match, their corporate coupon policy does not allow them to take competitor coupons except for ones that have a set price (which are maybe the coupons in the Walgreens ad only), and in areas that double they don’t do that either. If I went to Publix I could use a store or competitor coupon plus a manufacturer coupon on any item I had. Won’t work in Walmart… they will accept the manufacturer coupon only.
We won’t even add in the fact that the grocery store will help you take your groceries to car and give your kids a cookie.
Note: If your store does refuse to price match any of the deals in the ad, please know that the BOGO price at Publix will always beat the “always low price” at Walmart.
This week there are great deals on deodorant, dog treats and cereal at Publix that if price matched wouldn’t be anywhere near as good since they have store and competitor coupons available.
Here’s an example starting Thursday in Florida stores (or that started today in some areas):
Dove Deodorant, 2.6 oz, $2.77 (at Walmart)
Dove Deodorant, 2.6 oz, B1G1 at $3.29 (at Publix)
-$2/2 Dove products, (Publix coupon), Health & Beauty flyer
(makes it 64¢ each!)
Is There Anything Worth Price Matching?
Produce! If you area already headed to Walmart, pull up the grocery stores ads around you on Southern Savers and put all the top produce deals on one shopping list. Then head in and get all the top deals on produce around town in one place. Here’s an example of what I mean (it’s my list for this week to price match our local stores).
What About Savings Catcher?
I would prefer to save my money up front, rather than using their app and getting back what I over paid in Walmart gift cards. I can’t use their gift cards to pay the electricity bill. Just price match at the register and pay less in the first place rather than hoping the Savings Catcher will get the savings you should have gotten. For me it’s be wrong 50% of the time. If I price matched at the register… never wrong.
Have any other thoughts to chime in?
