We have been a BOB stroller family since 2006 when I started doing mom & baby fitness classes with my twins. I begged family members to go in together and help me buy a BOB Duallie. We had already tried two other jogging strollers before saving up, and none of them worked.
I knew a few features I had to have:
A front wheel that could swivel and could lock when needed.
A back foot brake that was easy to set and release.
Separate shades for each child.
Needed to fit through a regular door.
There were a number of other things I wanted, but those were the big needs. Now that my twins are 7, I have moved on from the Duallie and it was time to look for a single jogging stroller for our youngest. BOB and Britax sent us a new 2012 BOB Revolution SE stroller along with a Britax B-Safe car seat and the adapter for the car seat to fit the stroller! When I found out that it was coming it was like Christmas day 2006 all over again!!
If you’ve never had a jogging stroller, I know your first thought may be that you aren’t a runner and don’t need it. Believe me I’m not a runner either. I do like to go for walks and when I’m in a good workout mode I’ll sprint for a bit.
Once you try out a good jogging stroller, you’ll probably never want to go back to a basic stroller. First the ride is smooth, it’s a smooth you’ll notice instantly. Your basic baby stroller has small plastic wheels, the BOB Revolution has large rear 16” pneumatic tires (like bicycle tires). It also has a 12” pneumatic tire on the front. The front tire can swivel freely or if you are going to run you can lock it in place. A swiveling front wheel is a must if you want to easily turn a jogging stroller. If it doesn’t swivel you have to push down on the handlebar to lift the front wheel off the ground every time you want to turn… this will get old fast!!
For a little person the ride is smooth not only from the wheels, but the seat area also has extra padding. This was also a big plus compared to other strollers that just had a canvas area to sit in.
While the stroller appears large, it folds in two swift movements to be very small. If you need it even smaller the front wheel has a quick release feature. My husband also thinks all strollers should be tested on their “one hand release”, for a bob stroller put it on the ground and lift the main handle bar and you’re done. It takes maybe half a second and you’re ready to ride.
This was the first time that we’ve used a car seat adapter with a BOB stroller. I confess that we bought the adapter bar to use with our Duallie, but I thought it was going to be so hard to use that I never got it out of the box… today I tried out the new adapter and now I feel a little stupid. It takes a whopping 2 seconds to click into place. No tools required, nothing. After all these years and I never tried it with the other stroller…
With BOB strollers the car seat adapter is very specific to the infant car seat that you have, so if you don’t buy the awesome BOB & Britax deal, make sure you get the right adapter. If you plan on this being your regular stroller you will want an adapter to make it easier to click and run into the store.
There is a nice size under stroller basket that can fit a diaper bag, toys or whatever else you need. I keep things under there permanently and they don’t get in the way when the stroller is collapsed.
The last thing I love the BOB Revolution SE is that it fits my middle child too. Mary is 4, though small for her age, but she can ride too. This is perfect when we are making a day of it and someone gets tired of walking. The stroller can hold a child up to 70 lbs, which would actually be my older girls too. The only part they will eventually outgrow is in length. With Mary we can still use the canopy, but to put in any one taller would mean that the canopy needed to always be open.
Bob Strollers have pretty much always been awesome, but the exciting part is that they are now teamed up with Britax. This means you can now easily purchase a stroller, car seat and adapter making an instant travel system. The Britax B-Safe car seat is a top rated car seat, and to me has a lot of features that put our former car seat to shame.
It can hold babies up to 30 lbs, meaning we will make it through the first year without problems. The B-Safe also has lots of buckle positions perfect for our girls which have all been lean and long. It has two different lower positions and 4 shoulder positions.
